...a mini hippo! This little illustration was done as a part of Carla Sonheim’s The Art of Silliness 2 workshop last fall. The awkward black line is there because I didn’t have the composition quite right and ended up spilling out of the frame that was provided on the worksheet.

Ropes Course Popup Card

My husband and I decided to take our friend out on a ropes course picnic in the Spring...and I made this popup card for her. The individual pieces were painted in acrylics on Neenah Classic Crest cardstock (not a particularly smart choice for a painting surface), then cut and pasted together. For the cover/backing, I covered 2 pieces of cardboard with textured artist paper.

Holiday Card 2010

For this year’s Christmas card, I ended up painting a sketchbook-style collage. The challenge was to let go of the idea that I should somehow whip out a masterpiece holiday illustration and instead try to simply have fun drawing images that surround me in my daily life.

For the sentiment inside, I used a jolly handwritten typeface created by Font Diner and lettering artist Crystal Kluge, called Mountains of Christmas (love this name!). What’s more, they graciously made it available from Google for free! Yes, some free fonts are awesome.
